01 — Overview
A cloud-based trading platform for EDP's energy trading operation, covering three geographies and multiple asset types.

New EU energy-market regulations changed how trading operations must be run and reported.
03 — The Challenge
New EU energy-market regulations required a modernised cloud-based trading platform that could support different geographies and asset types.
04 — My Role
Product Designer, extending the existing product language to support new regulatory requirements, workflows and automation features.
05 — Discovery / Research
I worked from existing product patterns, business requirements and regulatory constraints to understand how new functionality could be introduced without disrupting established trading workflows.
06 — Key Insights
The challenge wasn't to redesign everything. It was to introduce new capabilities while keeping a complex operational environment familiar and coherent for existing users.
07 — Design Approach
Enterprise SaaS patterns, complex workflows, automation, navigation and close collaboration with engineering to extend the existing design language without fragmenting the product.

01 — Extend, don't reinvent Built new experiences around established patterns so users could recognise familiar interactions. 02 — Keep navigation coherent Considered how new functionality and automation could fit into the existing information architecture. 03 — Design for operational complexity Structured information and interactions around the needs of energy-trading workflows. 04 — Design with engineering Worked closely with development to ensure the proposed experience could be implemented consistently.
09 — Final Solution
A modernised trading cockpit that extended the existing product language while introducing new workflows and automation capabilities required by the evolving energy market.
10 — Outcome
A more coherent cloud-based interface supporting energy-trading operations across multiple geographies and asset types.
11 — Learnings
Enterprise products rarely need a clean slate. The real design challenge is knowing what should evolve, what should remain familiar and how the two can coexist without increasing complexity.
